buildingWho would have thought that the construction of high-rise buildings in major cities all over the United States will be on the rise, over the course of this past decade? The United States has always been synonymous with tall skyscrapers and majestic skylines adorning the horizon of the major cities.

High-rise buildings, commonly known as skyscrapers, are usually constructed to showcase a symbol of power, ego, ambition and economic might. People have looked in awe at all major US cities, which have showcased the might of high-rise buildings in all their majesty and engineering prowess.

Buildings that touch the sky have always fascinated man, and the quest to build higher buildings and reach the pinnacle of engineering prowess is one, which every country secretly plans to achieve. It is something which has influenced man, since ancient times, when the Egyptians built the pyramids, a modern marvel that is still considered one of the wonders of the world!

The construction of high-rise buildings in the United States was supposed to be on the downward slide. Ever since September 9 2011, there has been a decline in the number of skyscrapers being developed in the United States. This has resulted in the US, somewhat losing its status as the center of high-rise buildings all over the world.

As different countries have continued to develop high-rise buildings, the appeal of the United States, and the awe people held in the many skyscrapers staging the skyline, has been lost to some extent. The most notable of the high-rise buildings outside the U.S has been the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, which stands at 2,717 tall with a total of 163 stories!

However, the stats paint another picture. The US may have lost its charm in high-rise buildings, but the statistics show that there is an increasing trend in the number of high-rise buildings being developed in the United States. The City of New York alone has 281 new high-rise buildings built in the last 10 years! This brings New York’s tally of high-rise buildings to 2,151 skyscrapers in total!

The high-rise construction boom has also been felt in Chicago, which has had 149 high-rise buildings constructed in the last decade. Statistics have also revealed many major US cities plan on building more high-rise buildings in the future. Miami has had 74 skyscrapers built in the last 10 years.

New York and Chicago account for 43 percent of high-rise buildings that have been built in the last decade, with a combined total of 430 high-rise buildings constructed out of the 1,000 skyscrapers that have been developed in United States alone!
